Myerstat wrote:Congratulations,Michael..that is truly amazing and I know first hand how much work it takes.Like others pointed out, though, try not to go too far the other way and get emaciated.I gained a lot of weight many times over in my life and it has been a lifelong struggle.I was at my best throughout my twenties where I ran regularly(4 miles,4-5 days a week) and my diet was kept pretty much in control. After I turned 30 and started my job with the city,I started having less time and desire to put into fitness. My metabolism crashed and my weight skyrocketed to somewhere around 270.I got married at 30 and the security of a steady relationship made laziness come easier.I finally woke up and decided to stop the excessive alcohol consumption and eating and over the course of a year I got back into the best shape of my life.I got back down to 178 lbs. solid and looked better than I did when I was a junior in high school!!Unfortunately being a guy who doesn't deal with stress well,I went back to all of my bad habits and as it stands today I gained back every pound.I have found the will power many times in life but this time around it has been harder than ever to get started. There is a major difference between 20 and 37,in how your body responds, metabolism in general,fatigue,desire..the whole deal. So,it's great that you got all of that work done.Once you gain steam it all becomes routine and starts falling together.

The hardest part for me was always stopping the losing without getting too thin afterward. When I first needed to lose a lot of weight was going into my freshman year of high school.By the time I stopped the obsession of losing weight and exercise,I got down to 153 pounds and I looked like a dum dum lollipop.I was all head on a tiny frame. My mom was telling me I was getting too thin but I just didn't see it that way.Looking back at pictures years later,I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My mom was correct and I took it too far.Maintenance is the tricky part, once you decide that you are where you want to be and have to start changing things so that you maintain that weight without losing OR gaining.

Well, that's my war story and I am hoping to start again.I see a lot of people at work losing weight and it has been lighting a fire under my rear.Your story has given me some steam as well.

Again, major congratulations on taking the bull by the horns and making positive changes to feel better about yourself. That is awesome!!

Thank you! And thank you so much for sharing your story! I believe you can get back to where you want to be! Good luck!!
