Seriously, I second what Matt said, as I use artist charcoal sticks for weathering masks. You can apply the charcoal directly to the mask and blend in with your fingers....or rub the charcoal on your finger tips and rub/blend in onto the mask for a less subtle approach. Works surprisingly well. In the past, I have also used dirt/soil on my rotted masks.

My name is Marcus  its cool lol and i agree artist charcoal gives AMAZING results. Also it comes off with water so as long as you haven't sealed it you can take some away, add more, whatever.

I got a question

Really watered down acrylic outdoor paint (like a 90% water/10% paint), that way the acrylic ingredients won't harm the latex. It doesn't crack or peel and forms a permanent bond that won't wipe away.

I got a question

Actually, the paint bonds brilliantly and permanently with no sealant. I've tried it and even used the old damp cloth test by rubbing it over the areas. The original base will come off before the new paint will. I guess you could say it more less stains the original paint.

Third for charcoal.

Also, newspaper (the ink rubs off gradually, trust me it adds up (I used to be a shipping director, and we used tons of recycled Newspaper (hands were always near black after work). Obviously the newspaper would be a more generalized darkening agent, while the artist charcoal can be used for fine detail and darker work. Perhaps even a pencil as well. All sealed after applying of course.

Here's a site highlighting how reactive chemicals are with latex (this usually will help determine what's good to use when painting a mask, and what is not).

Agree with Marcus.... Charcoal sticks all the way, it really does give an amazing finish on detail and you can go as light or dark as you wish. Easy to find on ebay too.

Give it a go... if you don't like it or make a mistake, you can wash it off (unlike Acrylic paint)...

Cheers
